We heard it was coming and it’s here: Google’s latest algorithm update, which pushes non-mobile friendly sites down in searches on a mobile device.
It’s true. A site that isn’t mobile friendly, really isn’t an option any longer. In order to be competitive, it’s a necessity that your site is easily searchable via mobile device. However, as noted in a recent Forbes article, this might actually provide an advantage to small businesses.
Larger businesses typically have larger websites and more red tape to come to an agreement on site design and implementing the changes. Small businesses tend to have smaller websites and less required “meeting of the minds” across staff. Because of their flexibility, this gives small businesses the upper hand this go around.
According to Lucasz Zelevny, Head of SEO at uSwitch.com, “Small businesses tend to be far more flexible with their tech teams able to apply changes far quicker and easier than larger enterprises due to a less complicated infrastructure, also making it easier to roll out new software and processes.”
So, in this case, the glass is half full! Take this opportunity to make the most of your small business flexibility. It was time for an updated look anyway, wasn’t it?
